The Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) is one of the largest commodities markets in Chinese mainland, located in Lujiazui, the Pudong district of Shanghai. In December 1999, the SHFE was formed from Shanghai Foodstuffs Commodity Exchange, the amalgamation of the Shanghai Metal Exchange, and the Shanghai Commodity Exchange. In September 2008, SHFE started to trade gold futures. It is a self-regulated, non-profit-seeking incorporated body, with 219 members, overseen by the China Securities Regulatory Commission.

Since the Hong Kong covering the Asia time zone, its market's gold prices influence the gold market of New York, London or European.
